Is Clara (aka Stormfront) Homelander’s mother in The Boys? The evidence, examined

Season three had a sneaky clue about her bond with Soldier Boy

The latest episode of The Boys name-dropped Clara Vought. It’s been a while, so you’re forgiven if you’d forgotten which one she is. Clara Vought is the same as Clara Risinger, who is the same as Liberty, and the same as Stormfront. You with me? Remember, Stormfront was a big villain in season two. Homelander formed a romantic relationship with her, then Ryan barbecued her, and she killed herself.

After Soldier Boy brought up Stormfront to Homelander again, The Boys viewers are returning to a huge theory about her. So, here are five pieces of evidence that Stormfront is secretly Homelander’s mother in The Boys. I’m convinced, not gonna lie.

Exhibit A: The comics back up this theory

So, in the OG comics which The Boys is based on, Stormfront is actually a dude. His vibe seem to have been inspired by Marvel‘s Thor. Vought used Stormfront’s DNA to create Homelander. He’s Stormfront’s partial clone, and sort-of his biological son.

Of course, in the TV show, Stormfront is female, and Soldier Boy is the biological father of Homelander. So, it would make total sense for Stormfront to be Homelander’s biological mother.

Exhibit B: Stormfront is capable of having children

It was a bit unclear in the first season of The Boys whether Supes could reproduce in the way humans do – Vought (deceptively) told Homelander he was infertile. However, Stormfront did have a daughter called Chloe with Frederick Vought during the second world war.

Vought told Homelander a human surrogate gave birth to him, then died. However, the show hasn’t gone into detail about who Homelander’s biological mother is (like, genetically). Plus, haven’t we learned not to trust anything Vought says, ever?

Exhibit C: Soldier Boy and Stormfront have definitely hooked up (a lot)

My evidence comes from season three episode six. Soldier Boy gives Hughie and Butcher a TMI explanation of how the annual Herogasm event came about. He says: “I founded it in 1952. Me and this other Super, Liberty. Man, she was a firecracker!”

Remember, Stormfront was known as “Liberty” back then.

This line has aged even better now we’ve witnessed another character called Firecracker seductively breastfeed Homelander (God, this show sounds strange out of context).

Exhibit D: Homelander’s mummy issues

His creepy fascination with breastmilk and whatnot has been a huge part of his character since season one. Perhaps the pinnacle of this would be the discovery his ex is his mother?

Exhibit E: I wouldn’t put it past The Boys

The Boys is already so unhinged. Very few twists could unhinge the show even further. Homelander going full Oedipus – killing his father and f**king his mother – would make one hell of a finale.

Plus, Stormfront will be a main character along with Soldier Boy in the new spin-off show Vought Rising. It might be a sensible move for the showrunners to make Stormfront extra important.
