Will Homelander die at the end of The Boys season five? If so, how? We likely won’t know the answers until the finale, but showrunner Eric Kripke may just have given a massive clue about Homelander’s fate. Season five episode four dropped last week, showing Butcher and co heading to Fort Harmony to try and get their hands on the last remaining sample of V-One before Homelander does. The problem is that the blonde-haired supe arrives shortly after they do with his father. But unbeknownst to him, Soldier Boy has had enough of his ego and locks Homelander in a supe-proof cell. He then flips a switch that unleashes enriched uranium, which of course doesn’t kill him, but it doesn’t half make him sick. Eventually, Homie breaks out of the cell, marking the end of that storyline… or is it? In a conversation with TV Insider, Kripke was asked what viewers should take away from the fact that the chamber weakens Homelander so much and it still exists, and his answer was very telling. Homelander’s weakness will ‘come back’ in The Boys season five Credit: Prime Video “Without spoiling anything, it does come back to a certain extent,” Kripke said, going on to highlight that other than the fact he can’t see through zinc, The Boys has never explored any of Homelander’s physical weaknesses before. “We thought it was just an interesting thing to explore. Because ultimately he’s a human, his kryptonite would be the same kryptonite that all of us have, which is just highly insanely radioactive material,” Kripke continued. “Whereas we would drop dead within five to 10 minutes, Chernobyl style, he won’t drop dead, but it’ll make him sick in a similar way that Kryptonite makes Superman sick. So, it felt like a real-world version of Kryptonite.” Now, obviously Kripke emphasised that he didn’t want to spoil anything, but the fact that this thread will come back may be a big clue as to Homelander’s endgame. Given this is the only other known physical weakness and it effectively stalled the supe for a period of time, this could be the perfect opportunity for the gang to administer the supe virus. A scene at the end of season five episode four may just support this theory too. After the Fort Harmony debacle, Mother’s Milk walks in on Butcher watching an old Soviet video of a scientist using a Geiger counter on Soldier Boy to measure his radioactive levels. When MM asks what he’s doing, Butcher replies, “Just thinking.” Whatever Butcher’s thinking, it probably isn’t good news for Homelander.
