Rivals is known for a few things: The drama, the scandal, and, of course, the peens and whether or not they’re prosthetics or real. Based on Jilly Cooper’s 1988 bestseller, Hulu’s Rivals generated quite the buzz when season one came out in 2024. Starring mega talents like Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Emily Atack, and David Tennant, Rivals tackles “class, race, sex, wealth, and sexual liberation” through the lens of spectacle and fun. In fact, season one was so fun that two intimacy coordinators were involved in season two. “We have so much s*x on our show, we have to have two intimacy coaches,” Aidan Turner admitted. “Two!” Did Alex Hassell wear a prosthetic in Rivals? Credit: Hulu For season one of the filthy show, which really set the tone for future instalments in the series, Alex Hassell chose not to wear a prosthetic despite the plethora of other enhancements he was brandishing. “It was discussed how comfortable I was whether or not it would be me or prosthetics or digital. But in the end, we just went for it,” he said. “Well, my hair’s dyed, I’ve got a fake tan and my eyelashes are curled but apart from that it’s all me.” What about season two? Shocker, he gets his kit off again in season two, and this time, he once again chose not to wear a prosthetic. “In the book, Rupert is said to have a d*ck that could bat bread rolls across the room and while I am okay, I wouldn’t suggest that I could bat bread rolls across a room. And so they made some [prosthetic penises],” he told The Times in a recent interview. “They had to be held up against my face to see if the colouring was right. The first question I was asked on my first day of filming, sitting in the make-up chair for the first time, was what colour my penis was, so they [the production team] could get on with making them. It set a precedent for the whole show as to how well we were going to get to know each other. I decided very quickly to be very respectful of everyone’s boundaries and my own, but also be very blasé about the whole thing because if I was nervous about it, it would come off on screen.” Okay, what about Danny Dyer in season two? Credit: Hulu Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer also had a nude skinny dipping scene in season two of Rivals, and he too opted not to wear a prosthetic. “I go full frontal in this series, if they keep it in the edit,” the actor revealed. “It’s a night shoot, and it was cold, and I’d better not say any more. Nobody’s under pressure to be naked if they don’t want to, but if a woman’s getting her breasts out, why shouldn’t I get it all out? I’ve got breasts as well, to be fair.” There are many more instances of nudity in Rivals, and presumably, the rest of the cast followed suit with no prosthetics in sight!
