Danny Dyer addresses his full frontal moment in Rivals, and whether he was wearing a prosthetic

Shocker, this week’s Rivals episode had even more nudity than the first three, and Danny Dyer’s full frontal moment was the pièce de résistance.

Though there’s enough full frontal in Rivals to put Game of Thrones out of business, for the most part, it’s Alex Hassell’s character Rupert that finds his manhood going viral on Twitter.

“In the book, Rupert is said to have a d*ck that could bat bread rolls across the room and while I am okay, I wouldn’t suggest that I could bat bread rolls across a room. And so they made some [prosthetic penises],” Alex told The Times ahead of season two.

“They had to be held up against my face to see if the colouring was right. The first question I was asked on my first day of filming, sitting in the make-up chair for the first time, was what colour my penis was, so they [the production team] could get on with making them. It set a precedent for the whole show as to how well we were going to get to know each other. I decided very quickly to be very respectful of everyone’s boundaries and my own, but also be very blasé about the whole thing because if I was nervous about it, it would come off on screen.”

But for episode four, it wasn’t Alex’s business in 4k, it was Danny Dyer’s.

In episode four, Danny Dyer’s millionaire character Freddie Jones has a dalliance with Lizzie Vereker, played by Katherine Parkinson. They’re skinny dipping in the pool, which is when we got a full face of his Queen Vic – see what I did there?

Ahead of the show’s release, Danny Dyer spoke to Radio Times about his full-frontal moment. In a bid to support his fellow stars, who seem to wear fewer and fewer clothes each episode, he opted not to get a prosthetic.

“I go full frontal in this series, if they keep it in the edit,” he said. “It’s a night shoot, and it was cold, and I’d better not say any more. Nobody’s under pressure to be naked if they don’t want to, but if a woman’s getting her breasts out, why shouldn’t I get it all out? I’ve got breasts as well, to be fair.”

So that’s confirmed: That was really Danny Dyer’s penis in Rivals season two.
