After a video emerged of Russell Crowe interacting with autograph seekers outside his Paris hotel, the actor has since clapped back at the way it’s presented, describing it as “clickbait.” The footage emerged on Monday, May 25th, with TMZ sharing it alongside the caption, “If you needed a reminder that fans are not always priority No. 1 – turn to Russell Crowe – cause the guy was absolutely not having it outside of his Paris hotel.” Multiple outlets have since said the Gladiator star “loses it” at the fans. The footage itself shows Crowe, 62, emerging from the entrance and making an announcement to the group, who are off camera. “Are you listening?” he asks. “Stay where you are. Don’t f**king push in on me. I’ll come to you. Just give everybody space. As soon as somebody’s a d*ck, I’m gone.” He then proceeds to sign their Gladiator memorabilia, although when one person asks him to add, “Maximus,” Crowe shakes his head to say no and moves onto the next person. Russell Crowe asks ‘What’s your problem?’ On Tuesday, May 26th, Crowe himself shared TMZ’s video and criticised the way it’s being reported on. Clickbait. Everybody got their autograph and selfie, the passage to the hotel was kept free for guests, and I still got to the airport on time. One man, no security. Handled. What’s your problem?” His comments follow on from fans responding to the reports, with many suggesting Crowe was simply setting boundaries. “So when does Russell Crowe lose his cool? Looks calm while setting some rules to me,” wrote one. Another said, “Honestly, he didn’t seem aggressive to me – more exhausted and irritated than anything else. People often forget that even someone as famous as Russell Crowe is still just a human being with emotions, boundaries, and bad days.” A third added, “Because they were crowding him and going to rush up on him you ass hats! I would have done the same thing. Plus the majority of them are not fans. They are collectors getting autographs so they can go sell the stuff.” Credit: Universal Pictures Fans have similarly been sharing support for Crowe after he responded to the video. “Twice I met you, twice you were the most patient, awesome, kind and down to earth actor I met,” said one. Another replied, “He was honest from the beginning and set boundaries. He’s a human being and deserves respect like everyone else.” It’s currently unclear whether Crowe was in Paris for work or pleasure. The actor has plenty of projects lined up, including the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
