Kitty Messer
My main focus in journalism is news, politics and current affairs. I enjoy working on FOIs and finding new scoops and different angles on stories for The Tab. I like to find unique and exlusive angles on stories and cover things under-represented in other publications.

Experience
This is my third year doing The Tab and my first year in an editorial role. I have written numerous news stories for the publication and started out writing features. I also volunteer for Politics UK which is a student run national online publication focusing on political news coming out of the UK. I have only been doing this for a six months. I have written up some weekly news roundups for their Patreon site and covered national and international news, for example covering the US Government shutdown. I have also completed work experience at The Times Scotland office in Glasgow which I did for one year. I have been worked predominantely on the Alba desk which focuses on Scottish features. I have had numerous articles published with The Times including regular contributions to their Table Scraps column and Cycle of the Week Column. Additionally I contributed some full length features on topics ranging from film locations and shopping. I have also done a travel piece for The Times which was a great experience and allowed me to see a new side to journalism which I had previously not had experience in. This year I gained the opportunity to visit Scottish Parliament for a day of work experience. I attended FMQs and was introduced to the press pack who work there. This was an exciting opportunity which really instilled by passion for political and news journalism. I will be going back for more work experience here in January 2026.
Education
I am currently a final year student at Edinburgh University with a 2:1 grade average. I attended McLaren high school from 2016-2022 where I achieved AAAAA at higher level.
