True Blood to the Office: All the random places Anna Camp popped up before iconic YOU role
Obvs Pitch Perfect, but one role trumps them all
Anna Camp has a long history in TV and films, and while her breakout role in season five of YOU is beyond captivating, it wasn’t the first time we’ve seen the blonde bombshell steal the show.
In the fifth and final season of YOU, Anna took on the dual roles of Raegan and Maddie Lockwood. She did a brilliant job of differentiating the characters using separate voices and personalities, so naturally she asked for more money.
“As soon as I got the call, I said, ‘Well, I’m going to have to learn double the lines, will I get double the money?” she told Page Six at the New York City premiere of YOU. “They said, ‘No,’ but I did ask. I had to ask!”
Now that Raegan is dead and Maddie is living her best life with her twin sister’s husband, here’s where you can watch Anna Camp next.
What films has Anna Camp starred in?
After finding worldwide notoriety in Pitch Perfect, Anna featured majorly in Caught, One Night, The Wedding Year, The Lovebirds, and Desperados. Most recently, she was cast in an undisclosed role in the upcoming Scream 7. I’m just praying it’s Ghostface. It’s not technically a film, but she even played the starring role in Train’s Marry Me video.
Though her talent really shines in the world of TV, these films are must-watches for anyone wanting more Anna Camp in their lives.
1. Pitch Perfect
Most Read
Anna Camp’s first film role was in 2007’s And Then Came Love, followed by The Help, Bottleworld, and Forgetting the Girl. We can’t write about Anna Camp’s innate talent without first paying tribute to the franchise that had us in a chokehold, Pitch Perfect. She featured in all three films as the uptight and traditionalist co-leader of the Barden Bellas, Aubrey Posen.
Iconic doesn’t begin to describe her performance, and *that* vomit scene still lives rent-free in my head.
2. Café Society
Helmed by Hollywood’s most controversial director, Woody Allen, Café Society is a romantic comedy that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival – that’s how you know it’s good. Alongside Anna Camp as Candy, the film is stacked with names such as Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, Blake Lively, and Parker Posey.
3. From Black
We are used to seeing Anna Camp with those beautiful blonde tresses despite her literally being a natural brunette. From Black, an admittedly shaky horror film about a mother’s quest to find out what happened to her son, features Anna with dark hair in the leading role.
Watch these shows if you vibe with Anna Camp
Though she does have an impressive film career, I’d argue that TV is where Anna Camp really shines. Her first role came in 2007’s Reinventing the Wheelers, followed quickly by Cashmere Mafia, and arguably the best Anna Camp role of them all, True Blood. Over the years, she’s also featured in Glee, Mad Men, The Mindy Project, How I Met Your Mother, Creepshow, and Hysteria. Anna also has pretty substantial voice work under her belt, from Vampirina as the Bride of Frankenstein to Sofia the First as Princess Ivy.
I might be biased, but these are her best TV roles.
1. True Blood
In the vampire horror show, Anna played hardcore Christian Sarah Newlin, who was a plague for the main characters across multiple seasons. She had a brilliant southern twang throughout, and it’s somewhat easy to forget that she’s a huge bigot against vampires and anyone the slightest bit different. By the final season, it’s clear that Sarah Newlin is the true monster in a world of vampires, werewolves, and faeries.
2. The Office
Though she only appeared in one episode as Pam Beesly’s sister Penny, Anna Camp stole the show during her wedding to everyone’s favourite floppy-haired office worker, Jim Halpert. It’s disappointing that she never returned to the role because she should have fit in brilliantly with other late newcomers like Catherine Tate and Ellie Kemper.
3. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
If there’s one thing Anna Camp knows how to do, it’s play a rich b**ch with little to no care about everyone else’s well-being. In Netflix’s hit comedy show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Anna played Deirdre Robespierre, an Upper East Side socialite in a constant feud with Jane Krakowski’s Jacqueline White.
