The actual Michelle Obama has waded in to defend Simone Biles after gymnastics team drama

Michelle is a real girl’s girl

Michelle Obama came to the defence of Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles after the NFL player Marlon Humphrey called them both out as “disgusting” for bowing down to the Brazilian gold medalist Rebeca Andrade on the Olympics podium.

Biles and Chiles both finished second and third respectively in the floor exercise finals, with Andrade claiming the gold medal. It was an adorable moment, and an emotional one too: Three women of colour dominated the entire podium and history was made.

Biles shared the iconic moment to her Instagram, and Andrade commented a “🤩”, showing just how professional and sportsman-like the pair were.

The same cannot be said for NFL star Marlon Humphrey, who quoted the photo on X and wrote “This is literally disgusting.”

It seems like some people will say anything for a few likes on X. Luckily, the record-breaking gymnasts were not left unsupported: Michelle Obama, former First Lady and permanent legend, came to Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles’s defence on the platform very shortly after Humphrey’s post.

She wrote: “I’m still not over this beautiful moment of sisterhood and sportsmanship!”

She continued: “You can just feel the love shining through these ladies. Congrats Rebeca, Jordan and Simone!” You know you can always rely on Michelle Obama to bring the love.

It’s safe to say Humphrey was met with a lot of backlash for his controversial post. X users had some serious shade to throw at him in the tweet’s replies.

One user said: “God forbid athletes show respect to a fellow athlete who has suffered from a torn ACL multiple times.” An anterior cruciate ligament injury is the over-stretching or tearing of the ligament in the knee, which is a very serious injury that can need surgery to fix and can take up to nine months to heal. It’s safe to say Andrade earned her spot on top of that podium!

Humprey responded to the hate he was receiving on X after his post: “I’m lowkey getting cooked right now. I think I’m getting cussed out in Brazilian on Instagram lol.” Just a heads up Marlon, you’re getting cussed out in Portuguese, not Brazilian.
