Simone Biles is stressed after coming ‘too close’ to defeat against Brazilian gymnast
Rebeca Andrade kept her ‘on her toes’
Simone Biles opened up about her phenomenal gold medal victory at the Olympics last evening, but the win wasn’t all it seemed: She told reporters that it was her most stressful performance, and that she got “way too close” to defeat because of the pressure from Brazilian gymnastic rival Rebeca Andrade.
After her bars routine last night she appeared anxious as Rebeca nailed her routines in a stunning yellow leotard, representing the Brazilian flag.

Her routines won her the silver medal and put her score at 57.932: Just 0.166 points behind Biles who hit a 59.131 total.
Although Rebeca took home the silver and Biles won her sixth Olympic gold medal, she joked with the reporters afterwards that “I don’t want to compete with Rebeca no more. She’s way too close.”
It’s great that Simone – who is very often in a league of her own – has some competition to keep the competition nail-biting for all of us watching at home. And, it’s crazy that the best in the biz is being put to the test.
Simone said: “I’m excited and proud to compete with her but I’m getting uncomfortable guys. I don’t like that feeling. I was stressed.”
Her U.S. teammate and bronze medal winner chimed in: “I swear I’ve never seen you that stressed!”
However, Rebeca was hardly upset by her second place score, and was just proud to have run Simone so close. She was smiling from ear to ear as Simone held a final pose, finishing her gold-medal set. “I was very proud. of her, it was amazing. I was very, very happy,” she said to reporters.
Her performance was outstanding, but she also enjoyed the rush of getting neck and neck with Simone: “I had a very good competition, and I was proud of myself. So it was a smile of joy for her, a smile of joy for me, because I did my best.” Love seeing two women be insanely talented at their sports.
Although Simone Biles might be relieved at the moment, that feeling may not last long as the two will go head to head again in the vault, balance beam and floor finals on the third and fifth of August, which could result in another close score against the Brazilian gymnast. It’s literally too much stress for me to handle, so I’m glad I’ll be watching from the sofa. You go girls!
