Here are the couples with the worst chemistry on Love Island 2024

ITV’s Love Island is all about finding love, right? And when the show first premiered, it definitely felt like this was the end goal. But there’s something about this season that just feels different: Maybe it’s because absolutely none of the couples have any chemistry, and the producers are scraping the barrel for any sparks of romance they can find. The first crime was putting Joey Essex and his literal ex on the show. It definitely feels like more of a drama-fest rather than a place to find love, and it’s resulted in the Love Island 2024 couples having some of the worst chemistry known to man. Here’s a list of the Islanders who definitely weren’t meant to be:

5. Ayo and Jess

I was initially pleased for Ayo after he found a connection with Jess, despite Mimii being one of my favourite Islanders of the season. However, after watching her break down in tears after Ayo told her about her brother’s opinion of her after the family episode earlier in the week, I am officially revoking my deep rooted support.

“Of course they had their opinions,” Ayo said on the show last night. “One of my brother’s opinions was, to let you know as well, was that he felt like me and Mimii are better suited.”

It was a tough watch and could have been handled a lot better from him. One fan on Reddit turned the blame onto Bolaji, angrily commenting: “Like Bolaji, my man, do you not see what your brother has put these women through? Would you want him to be with mimii after the way he’s treated her? Why are you digging homegirl Jess out like this????” and I actually couldn’t agree more.

4. Lolly and Konnor

Konnor entered the villa on day 17, while Lolly was introduced on day 39, and they coupled up a day later.

After just four days together, Lolly and Konnor were picked to leave the show after an audience vote selected them as one of the least compatible couples. As one Reddit user put it: “Lolly & Konnor don’t have the chemistry to make up for their lack of screen time.” I can’t say many were surprised at their dumping.

3. Grace and Reuben

Recently evicted from the villa, Grace and Reuben were both fan favourites, but the pair just seemed to be pretty boring as a couple. It also didn’t help that Grace was constantly in feuds with Joey, so maybe Reuben just didn’t want to step on any toes.

During the dramatic Couple of Sorts game, Grace and Reuben were deemed the couple who were least likely to work on the outside by the public and were subsequently dumped. Now out of the villa, the pair have simply claimed that this was because of their long distance (with Grace living in Manchester and Reuben in Surrey), but I actually just think they were one of the least exciting couples there. They are pretty intent on making it work, so we’ll see, but I’m not holding my breath.

2. Joey and Jessy

Despite Joey’s mildly touching speech after the iconic Grafties controversy, I genuinely see nothing more than surface-level attraction between the pair. After being nominated for Ultimate Pot Stirrer, Flirtiest Performance and Unfinished Business, Joey found himself inbetween several fights with other Islanders. Users on Reddit remarked: “He treats her like an extra in his TV show” and I think that sums it up quite well.

However, he seems to firmly believe that he’s found the one in Jessy. In a steamy hideaway scene, he even told her that: “I actually think you should just come straight to Essex!”

He also seems to be aware of the preconceptions surrounding his character, and was visibly hurt when he won the most likely to cheat award in Couple of Sorts last night. But, he is determined to “prove the public wrong”. I guess only time will tell.

1. Matilda and Sean

Sean should have won a Grafties award for being the most icky man to ever set foot in the villa in my professional opinion. I feel like all he has done is start arguments, target Mimii and been generally unlikeable (see plummeting sweet business) while Matilda sits quietly from the sidelines. I’m also not ever going to forgive him for telling Matilda to shut up, because what the actual. I am all round not impressed with him and am starting to lose faith in Matilda because of it. The couple definitely top the worst couples on Love Island 2024. To be real, I can’t believe they’ve made it this far.
