Bristol drop four places in the Complete University Guide

Bristol has dropped four places in the Complete University Guide, placing them below such ‘prestigious’ institutions as Loughborough, Surrey and Lancaster.

The Complete University Guide ranks universities according to entry standards, student satisfaction, research assessment and graduate prospects. This year Bristol was placed 15th, down from 11th last year.

Bristol has now dropped a total of 7 places since 2009, mostly due to poor student satisfaction scores. Of the universities above Bristol, only UCL is disliked more by its own students.

Unsurprisingly, Cambridge made top of the list, closely followed by Oxford with other universities Bristol students were probably rejected from such as Durham and LSE also in the top ten.

tableOn being told the news, one Bristol student told The Tab, “I think people are happier in those unis because they don’t need to work anywhere near as hard so they’re not as stressed.”

“If all I had to do was little pieces of group work and coursework and no exams I’d give very good student satisfaction too!”

Another student bitterly remarked, “let’s see how satisfied they are when they’re still unemployed in five years or are working temp office jobs. There’s a difference between ‘getting a job’ and ‘getting a good job’”.

It’s not all bad news for Bristol with certain courses managing to score highly. Economics was placed 6th in the country with Computer Science 5th and Mechanical Engineering an impressive 3rd.

2nd year MechEng student Tom said, “this doesn’t surprise me. The facilities here are outstanding. We have everything from wind-tunnels to a helicopter in the basement!”

It could be worse: UWE are 56th!
