Everything you forget to pack when moving into your first apartment

Shoot, do I actually need towels?

It’s that time of year again, when you realize how out of shape you have gotten during the summer by how sore you are just from move-in day. You have spent weeks collecting all of the necessary items, organizing it all, and checking off lists. The day of, you have gone up and down countless flights of stairs, loaded and unloaded your family friends truck, rearranged until it was just perfect, and unpacked till your hearts content. You have done it all and then you finally sit down and realize you have actually forgotten several necessary items.

Towels

Sounds ridiculous, but it happened. These are obviously necessities. Don’t forget them, especially soft ones.

Bed Raiser

Being a little higher above the ground adds ample storage space below and makes it feel a little more grand.

Drying Rack

Sure, your kitchen might have a dishwasher, but there is no way everything is dishwasher safe. Also, there is no way you are going to want to hand dry everything right after you wash it.

Kleenex

It is easy to forget in the summer heat when you don’t have a cold, but they come in handy for more than just the common cold.

A bin to separate your toiletries

Very few places come with actual well spaced drawers for all of your belongings, especially in the perfect way to separate your items from your roommates’.

Carpet

Hard wood floors are easy to clean and not bad on the eyes, but a good carpet can warm up any room and create the illusion you might actually know how to decorate.

Succulent

They’re easy and add just a little bit more homeyness while teaching slight responsibility.

Photos from home

It may be easy to forget these when all you were thinking about was what tapestry will match your bed spread, but they’ll add a touch of home to your new home away from home, and that is the fastest way to feel comfortable in a new space.

Nightstand

Your phone needs somewhere to rest, it is all about convenience.

A comfortable desk chair

As much as we all would like to think we will always make it to the library to study, your laziness will most certainly become a factor and having a comfortable desk chair will make those hours of studying on it a little easier.

Take your mind off the ascetic for a bit, and think of the everyday necessities. Your day to day self will thank you.
