Pope Francis meets with parents of Beau Solomon

The homeless man has been charged with the murder of UW-Madison sophomore

Earlier today the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had met with Beau’s parents and expressed his “compassion and his closeness in prayer to the Lord for the young man who died so tragically.”

Officials have charged 40-year-old Massimo Galioto with the murder of 19-year-old UW-Madison sophomore Beau Solomon.

The homeless man was charged yesterday on suspicion after Beau’s body was found in Rome’s Tiber River on Monday morning.

ANSA, the Italian news agency, reported that the autopsy suggested Beau suffered injuries consistent with a fall and that his body had spent multiple days in water. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Beau was last seen on Thursday night but was reported missing by his roommate the next morning after he didn’t show up to orientation.

Beau had just landed in Rome to study at John Cabot University, hours before he was last seen.

Beau had just finished his first year at UW-Madison as a personal finance major.
