Jasmin Mediterranean permanently closes over winter break

Forever in our hearts

Franklin Street is known for a few things. Good food, cute boutiques, and students rushing it when we beat dook. Unfortunately, good food doesn’t always last on Franklin. Over the past few years, we’ve seen places including Krispy Kreme, Qdoba, and McAlister’s close. As 2017 kicks off, we say goodbye to Jasmin, one of Carolina’s new favorite Mediterranean restaurants.

Over winter break, Jasmin Mediterranean closed its doors for good. While it wasn’t Med Deli, it was definitely a close second. It was conveniently located close to campus and satisfied our hunger when we were in a rush.

With the closing being so sudden, The Tab UNC reached out to former Jasmin employee and current UNC student Jess Wangler to find out more about the closing.

When did you find out Jasmin was closing?

I found out three days ago when my manager messaged me and a few other students who worked there.

Did they say why they were closing?

They didn’t. I honestly have no idea why they closed. We were almost always busy!

What did you love about working at Jasmin?

I really enjoyed everyone who worked there as we all became really good friends.

It’s pretty safe to say that it’s hard to stay open on Franklin Street, even if the location and food are great. Hopefully, we won’t see another local business close anytime soon.
