UMass announces prohibition on hoverboards

Sorry all of you Aladdin wannabes

Hoverboards, which are currently linked to fires in 12 states, have been banned campus wide. This ban includes residential facilities and all other university buildings. The ban will be in effect starting today.

But then again…

According to a notice recently sent out by the University, they are urging students to leave hover boards and other similar devices at home when returning to school this semester.

“Last month a number of retailers pulled hoverboards from their shelves amid reports of fires and explosions caused by poor quality lithium-ion batteries in the devices that are prone to malfunction and overheating.”

To date, 16 fires have been reported across the country

…Is that why the fire alarm kept going off during finals week in Du Bois?
