UConn sophomore charged with homicide after fatal September crash

The crash killed two UConn students

A UConn sophomore has been charged with negligent homicide after her two passengers died in a car accident.

Hannah Schmidt was driving back to campus from her home in Hebron on September 18th last year, when she allegedly drove through a stop sign and was hit by a tractor trailer on the passenger side of her car. Both vehicles then hit a utility pole.

Ryan Meegan and Alana Ferrante, also students at UConn, were passengers in the car and died at the scene. Schmidt, suffering from an open skull fracture and concussion, commented in an interview following the accident that she did not remember anything that happened after she left her house.

Hannah Schmidt has recently turned herself into police and was charged with two counts of negligent homicide as well as a stop sign violation. She was released on a $1000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on April 27th. So far there is no further information.

Hannah’s Facebook page has also been removed.
