New STEM-building to host ‘African American male only’ section

‘The learning community will be called “The ScHOLARS House”‘

A new learning community is making its way to UConn Storrs, focusing primarily on African American students in research.

The learning community will be called “The ScHOLARS House,” housing 43 African American men to unite, encourage, and strive towards graduating to raise the graduation percentage of African American students at the University.

One grant has helped fund the learning community to become a reality on campus, but it is not the first time race or gender has been a primary focus of UConn’s learning community. It will be in effect after the completion of the new dorm buildings near Hilltop.
