Husky George Springer doubles in historic win at Yankee Stadium

The Astros reached the playoffs for this first time in 10 years

New Britain native and current Houston Astro George Springer made the most of his post-season debut last night in a 3-0 win over the New York Yankees.

The 26-year-old studied at UConn from 2008-’11 and just helped his team reach the ALDS for the first time in 10 years.

This is Springer’s second season in major league baseball, and his first ever game at Yankee Stadium.

In just his second at bat of the game, the former Big East Player of the Year made his mark, smacking a double to deep center field, and creating a memory that will last a lifetime.

Ex-History major Springer, who grew up a Boston Red Sox fan, vanquished his arch rivals on their home turf to advance in the playoffs.

It doesn’t get much better than that.
