UC Berkeley addresses concerns about professor found guilty of sexual harassment

An alternative section will be offered for students of Professor Nezar AlSayyad

After recent demands made by students of Professor Nezar AlSayyad, an Architecture professor found to have sexually harassed a student, the department of City and Regional Planning will be offering an alternative section for those who refuse to stay in his class.

On Tuesday, graduate students organized to protest the UC policy that prevents administrators from alerting students about faculty misconduct investigations if the students are not involved in the investigation. In response to the outcry, department chair Teresa Caldeira sent an email to AlSayyad’s students to address the issue. She wrote: “We have heard your concerns. We have decided to set up an alternative section for the course. This alternative section will have another instructor of record who will see the semester through completion.”

AlSayyad denied all allegations during the investigation.

AlSayyad will not be teaching courses in the spring. HeĀ is the fourth renowned employee to be found guilty of sexually harassing a student or colleague at the university in the past two years.
