Remembering Richard Dalcourt

‘I really enjoyed watching him grow up and become the caring and kind-hearted young man that he was’

Temple freshman Richard Dalcourt passed away in his 1940 residence hall on October 3.

Rick was majoring in mechanical engineering and described as a "quiet, kind and caring person often going way out of his way to help others" in his obituary by his friends and family.

Like many of the members of our community, Rick loved playing video games, watching movies, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his two older sisters who he dearly loved.

Although Rick only spent a short time with us, he will always be remembered as a fellow Temple Owl.

In this time of mourning, The Tab Temple reached out to Dalcourt's sister Paige to learn more about Rick.

She told The Tab: “Ricky was extremely kind hearted and often put others before himself. This past week I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with all the people he has made a positive impact on. The stories revolve around him making people feel welcome and included.

"One girl told me that she had transferred to our school district in the middle of high school and had a very hard time making friends. Ricky was her first friend and introduced her to all his friends. He made her feel like she wasn't alone, that people cared about her and wanted her to feel included.

"Another one of Rick’s friends told me that he had lost his friend group early on in high school. Ricky introduced him to his friends and saved him a seat at his lunch table. The friend said that without Ricky, he wouldn't have had anyone.

"Ricky had a big heart. For me personally, my favorite memory of Ricky was last summer. Before returning to college, my friends and I hung out in our backyard and played volleyball in the pool. Ricky was very shy but really opened up that weekend. He came out and swam with us. He even cooked for me and all my friends. Mac n' cheese and nachos was his specialty.

"He had a very large impact on our community in WWP. It’s hard to find words.

"There aren’t any words that can do justice. Heaven truly gained an angel. Ricky was extremely kind, often going out of his way to help others.

"I really enjoyed watching him grow up and becoming the caring and kind-hearted young man that he was.

"I am so incredibly proud to be his sister.”

The Temple community joins that Dalcourt family mourn for the passing of Rick, his parents urge others to recognize the signs of depression and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
