Meet the candidates running to represent SMC students in TSG’s Parliament

The newly introduced Parliament will change the way students are represented in TSG

Temple Student Government just created The Parliament, and it’s promising to be a new way for students’ voices to be heard.

“The Structure of The Parliament is designed to uplift voices of populations that may have been overshadowed in the past while maintaining an equal balance of representation. There are 37 representative seats: 12 School/College Based, 10 Year Based, 10 Issues based, and 5 At Large seats. The 10 Issues based seats include: 2 Multicultural seats, and one seat for representatives of Honors, RHA, DRS/AAL, Athletics, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Commuters, International Students, and LGBTQIA+ cohorts.”

The Parliament voting will take place midnight tomorrow till noon on Wednesday–where students will easily be able to vote online.

Ryan Frascella and Alexis Hack are the two sophomore Strategic Communications students who want you to vote for them tomorrow.

Not many people know about voting for Parliament, why do you think it’s important for Temple students to vote?

I think it’s important for students to go online and vote since this is the first time they will have a direct line to Temple Student Government. SMC students will have a say and I’ll be the person to represent them in the TSG meetings.

Why do you wish to represent SMC students in TSG’s Parliament?

I am interested in this position because I want to be able to help affect positive change here at Temple, inspire meaningful dialogue amongst students, and work as hard as I can to see to it that the University continues down the same path that has given it so much success over the past few years. The greatest incentive for me in holding this seat is to be able to combine my passion for the School of Media and Communication and Temple University into one position where I can positively advocate on behalf of both groups. I have been the beneficiary of countless opportunities thanks to the School of Media and Communication, and I want to help ensure that other students have the chance to have some of the great experiences that I have. Having the privilege to hold this seat would mean a lot to me. It would mean that I am entrusted to represent the two entities that have molded me into the person I am today. It would mean that I would be able to talk with and listen to students and reassure them that their concerns are being heard. And it would mean that I would have the ability to help inspire other students to take charge of their future, and work towards achieving their dreams. The desire to help students has and always will be, my main reason for running for a seat on the parliament.

In TSG’s Parliament, they state you will be advocating for all students in SMC, do you have anything in specific you want to change for SMC students?

I think we should have a media center convergence for student media outlets, but still manage to maintain the autonomy. It would be cool to work with and I also plan to have monthly meetings with Dean Boardman and other faculty to keep advocating for SMC students.

Not many people know about voting for Parliament elections, why do you think it’s important for Temple students to vote?

I think people should vote because we are a huge student body and that affects everyone’s voice being heard or not. I want every student organization to be involved and I don’t just want to focus on SMC but I also want to advocate for any school if I feel the need to speak up for them.

Why do you wish to represent SMC students in TSG’s Parliament?

I am interested in this position because I am a transfer student at Temple and I want to fully embrace all Temple can offer as well as meet students that have a similar enthusiasm for hard work. Also, I already feel this is school is so amazing because it creates a ton of opportunity and I want all students to be able to find something to call their own accomplishment.

In TSG’s Parliament, they state you will be advocating for all students in SMC, do you have anything in specific you want to change for SMC students?

One of the things I would want to change is the way people view Communication majors. They don’t receive the same credit as other majors receive and I’ll also like to represent PRSSA greatly since it is so involved as a student organization.

This voting might seem like it’s small, but the Parliament is a representative platform to advocate for the voices of all perspectives with the goal of enhancing the Temple experience by engaging with students to set the agenda for new and effective programs based on the wants and needs of all Owls.

Temple students should take the opportunity to vote tomorrow online to ensure their voice is heard. Make sure to vote for your choice from midnight tomorrow through Wednesday at noon.
