BREAKING: Temple student attacked near campus earlier tonight

Students received a safety email a couple hours before the incident

Campus police confirmed a female Temple University student was attacked near 15th and Montgomery earlier tonight. They told The Tab she suffered minor injuries and had scrapes on her body after someone tried to take her purse. She did not need to go to the hospital.

Temple sophomore Julia Levan was walking by the scene after it happened and said she saw a helicopter circling campus with lights and a lot of police cars outside of the Liacouras parking garage.

“I was walking down 15th Street and walked past girls talking to the police saying that they heard someone breathing heavily and thought it was just someone coming from the gym,” Julia said. “That’s all I overheard but you could definitely tell that something happened by the panic in their voices, and other people said they saw a girl covered in blood.”

There is no evidence as of now if this attack is related to Friday night’s mob-style attacks, and as of 9:30 pm there was no TU alert about the incident.

Today, Tuesday October 25th at 4:50 pm, students received an email from President Richard M. Englert acknowledging the mob attacks from Friday night.

In the email he stated, “I want to remind you that while last weekend’s events received tremendous media attention, Temple remains a very safe campus.”

President Englert listed a number of steps Temple is taking to protect their students, including an increased presence of both Temple and city police. He said they will be monitoring social media and working with businesses around campus to work with them.
