Syracuse sophomore pronounced dead at the scene of car crash

Hunter Watson was the front seat passenger of one the cars involved

Delaware State Police have confirmed that 20-year-old Hunter Watson was the front seat passenger in one of the cars involved in a crash on Saturday, June 18th.

The crash took place near the Firefly festival in Dover, Delaware.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a spokesman for the Delaware State Police, said Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both cars were injured and taken to hospitals near the area immediately.

The collision occurred when the driver of the Jeep Hunter was a passenger of failed to stop at a stop sign, crossing into the path of a Ford pickup.

Officials ruled out alcohol as a factor of the crash.

Hunter was from McLean, Virginia and had just finished his sophomore year at Syracuse. He was also a member of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi.

His fraternity brothers released a statement on their Facebook page on Sunday night.

“It is with great sadness to announce that one of our brothers, Hunter Watson, has passed away this morning. Hunter was truly the definition of what it means to be a Phi Kappa Psi. He was ever so kind, courteous and cultured who brought a smile to all of our faces.

We ask for all you to please keep Hunter and his family in your thoughts and prayers at this trying time.

We will update everyone as funeral arrangements and more information is announced.
