What it’s like being a girl that loves sports

No, I’m not trying to be ‘one of the guys’

I couldn’t give a shit if I actually fit in or not, but finding that group where you really click with people is one of the best feelings. Mine comes with sports. I grew up completely surrounded by sports like football, hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer- you name it I either played it, watched it, went to games or all of the above. I love the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates and, I’ll support the Steelers. Don’t even get me started on all the NFL bullsh*t that’s been going on the past few years. Yes, I’m a Duke basketball fan too- go ahead and hate me.

I made seven of my roommates fill out March Madness brackets this year for college hoops and for most of them it was the first one they’ve ever done (which is insane to me) but it’s now been deemed a house tradition.

Not everyone gets why I refuse to go out before the game is over on a Friday night or the reason I’m in a bad mood is because my team lost to a big rival. Trying not to scream during a game while my roommate is sleeping has to be one of the hardest things for me to do.

I constantly get sports updates on my phone and hear the ESPN music more than my own text tone. I constantly go on rants about a shitty call on the game I’m watching, a dirty hit or a key play my team made, and typically it’s like I’m talking to a wall because no one understands what I’m saying half the time. If you’re a girl that truly loves sports and have a diehard passion for your teams- you understand.

Embrace your love for sports, ladies!
