The 10 Commandments of Ohio State football

Thou shall never listen to Mark May

There is no place a Buckeye fan would rather be than “The Shoe” on a Saturday in the fall. Ohio Stadium is basically the football version of a church, temple, mosque, etc. The following is a list of 10 Commandments that all Ohio State fans should abide by in the stadium, during the season, on game day, and just in general.

Thou shall never wear blue or maize

In honor of the rivalry with TTUN (that team up north)  under no circumstances should Buckeye fans ever wear blue or maize. If you own something blue or maize you may as well burn it because you do not want to be seen in Columbus with these colors on. Additionally, this rule also applies to the color green. Finally, fans should never refer to TTUN by their real name.

Thou shall always respond to an “OH” with an “IO”

The “OH…IO” chant is one of the most sacred chants in all of college sports. If you ever hear one of your fellow buckeyes call out an “OH” then you must respond with an “IO” or else you aren’t a true fan. True buckeye fans are unafraid to shout this phrase anywhere because they know someone will always respond.

Thou shall never take Brutus’s name in vain

No matter their record, no matter how bad things may get, we must always show respect for our football team. Not every season will be a perfect season or end with a National Championship, but we must always keep cheering for the Buckeyes no matter their record.

Thou shall never miss “Block”

“Block” is essentially a tailgate on steroids hosted by numerous fraternities/sororities each game day. In other words this commandment is in place to make sure one never misses a tailgate. Trust me, that paper due next week or that midterm that you have to study for can wait for Sunday, you never want to miss one of these tailgates.

Thou shall always stay for “Carmen Ohio”

“Carmen” is one of the best traditions in all of college football. Nothing is better than singing your alma mater with your friends after a huge win. And nothing is more humbling than singing  “Carmen” after a loss. Win or lose we must always stay and show our love for Ohio State.

How firm thy friendship?

Thou shall attend at least one road game per season

Ohio State has one of the best fan bases in all of college football. What makes Buckeye fans so special is the fact that they can fill up a stadium halfway across the country. In 2015 Ohio State fans did an incredible job in showing up for the Sugar Bowl, a game that was essentially in Alabama’s backyard. The stadium was about even when it came to the two fan bases and I believe the abundance of Buckeye fans giving their support was one of the main reasons why we beat Alabama in that game (and Cardale’s performance too).

Thou must perform at least one drunken “Braxspin” per game day

Watch this video to learn how to properly perform a “Braxspin”.

Please note: We are not responsible for any injuries that may occur while attempting this move.

Thou shall never listen to Mark May

There is a reason why Mark May was replaced on College Football Final in favor of fellow buckeye Joey Galloway. Mark May has always been biased against Ohio State during his career at ESPN, take what he says with a grain of salt.

Thou shall respect the crop-top

Although the NCAA forced Zeke to stop wearing the crop-top during games, it should be noted Zeke dominated college football when he was allowed to wear the crop-top (watch the Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon games). Although the crop-top may be gone on the football field, it is the obligation of buckeye fans to support this fashion trend on game day in honor of Zeke leading us to the 2015 National Championship.

Too cold for a crop-top, but not too cold for flip flops

Thou shall never put another team above the Buckeyes

The Buckeyes recently came in at  the No. 1 spot in the AP poll for top 100 football teams of all time, therefore there is no justification to say any other program is better. Ohio State is tied for first with seven Heisman Trophies. If that is not enough we have eight National Championships and were the first team ever to win the College Football Playoff.

One of the seven Heisman Trophies that belong to Ohio State

Overall there is nothing like Ohio State football, thank the lord that the season is almost here!
