MSU freshman dies in car crash

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mitchel Kiefer’s family and friends

On Monday morning, Michigan State freshmen, Mitchel Kiefer, was driving back to school from his hometown of Northville, Michigan and was involved in a fatal car accident.

Kiefer, 18, was rear-ended near Dietz Road on I-96, causing him to cross the median, where he collided with a truck hauling an empty horse trailer traveling eastbound.

Jason Cody, a representative for MSU said, “The thoughts and prayers of the MSU community are with Kiefer’s family and friends. MSU’s Office of Student Affairs and Services is reaching out to the family to provide support.”

Mitchel was loved by many. He was the goalie of the Detroit Catholic Central hockey throughout high school and a great addition to the MSU family.

The freeway was closed for most of the day on Monday and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office says that the crash is still under investigation.
