San Antonio named a top city to visit — but we knew that already

Countdown City rises to the top

In a move that would surprise exactly no one who’s ever visited, San Antonio, TX was featured on Lonely Planet’s annual “Best of the U.S.” list, coming in at number eight.

The article cites the Riverwalk, historic missions and Pearl Brewery as must-see destination within the city, but any true SA native would point a tourist in the direction of a deliciously terrible neighborhood taqueria and the AT&T Center — during Spurs season, anyway.

While it’s an honor to be included on the list, what this ex-Texan can’t grasp is why visiting San Antonio seems like such a revolutionary concept. Oh, and why we were ranked after Northwestern Arkansas. SA has world-class restaurants, shopping centers, two famous amusement parks, unique culture, historic sites and the undisputed best basketball team in the county. The fact that we didn’t get the number one spot is, frankly, an insult.

May the ghosts of the Alamo haunt the Lonely Planet offices for the rest of eternity.
