Update: University says there were no actual clowns at JMU

JMU confirmed that the sighting happened on another campus

The Director of Communications and spokesperson for JMU, Bill Wyatt, has confirmed that the clown sighting did not happen at JMU, but instead at another university.

In an email he said, “JMU police received a call at 11:55 pm last night about social reports of a clown on campus. Police were able to determine that the posts about a clown sighting actually occurred on another campus in a different state.”

So despite the clown ‘sightings’ and subsequent hunters last night and the chaos that ensued on campus and social media, apparently the clowns are some other university’s problem. There’s still no confirmation as to how the whole frenzy started in the first place.

JMU students are perfectly safe and have nothing to fear, so feel free to sleep easy tonight knowing there are no clowns in Harrisonburg.
