Two UF football players arrested after firing BB gun at Keys Complex

Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells have been charged with criminal mischief and firing a weapon into a residence

Early Monday morning two of UF’s new football recruits, Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells, were arrested and charged at the Alachua County Jail for their involvement in criminal activity that took place on campus at the Keys Complex on Friday, July 15th.

Surveillance video shows them firing a BB gun into the occupied Keys Complex, shattering glass panels and causing damage that has supposedly amounted to over $1,000. After being identified, Cleveland and Wells were charged with criminal mischief and firing a weapon into a residence, both of which are felonies. Wells turned over the BB gun to the police, admitting that he was the one who shot it.

The two are currently waiting in the Alachua County jail for bail to be posted.

Coach McElwain has released a statement saying that there will be consequences for both of the incoming freshmen.

Cleveland and Wells were both well sought after recruits throughout 2015 and 2016. Colleges such as University of Miami, Arkansas and TCU fought for Cleveland while USF, Virginia Tech and South Carolina vied for Wells, with UF winning out in both cases. Both committed in early 2016.
