Sororities at Brown to welcome transgender and transitioning women

Effective immediately

Sorority hopefuls at Brown will not have to identify the gender they were born with in order to go through recruitment. They will only have to disclose their legal name and their preferred name.

The motion, put forward by Sophie Blistein ’16, Vice President of Recruitment for the Panhellenic Council, has been approved by all three of the Council’s sororities, namely Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta and Kappa Delta.

“Sororities have always had this kind of reputation of being noninclusive, we’ve always had diversity problems,” said Blistein. “I thought this was one thing that we could really tackle.”

Recruitment kicks off Wednesday, February 10th, according to Brown Panhellenic. You can register here.
