Bedford Club Audio Set to Close

Audio Southampton, the sister club of internationally acclaimed venue Audio Brighton, is due to close down.

Audio Southampton, the sister club of internationally acclaimed venue Audio Brighton, is due to close down.

Audio in Brighton opened in 2005 and decided to branch out to Southampton in 2010 taking residence in Bedford Place, after an arson attack by an angry punter forced the previous club, Rhino, to close. Audio has playedhost to Wax every Wednesday featuring artists such as Nero, Benga, Shy Fx, Qemists and Caspa. It is a great shame and will be missed greatly by the student population.

At the moment the official reason for Audio closing is unknown, however it is believed to be due to the management selling the venue, and not anything to do with the authorities. One thought in my mind is how saturated Bedford place is for clubs and pubs, making a good return almost impossible.

The owner of Audio also sold off his other Southampton bar, Mono in 2010. Mono has now become Pop, the ‘little sister’ of Orange Rooms.

Rumours are rife about what will become of Audio. The most popular seems to be that it will now become a strip club. ‘For Your Eyes Only’…. you now have competition!
