Nottingham ranks in the world’s top 50 student cities

It’s better than Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds and Bristol


The higher education analysts, Quacquarelli Symonds, have released their annual rankings of the world’s best student cities, and Nottingham has come in an impressive 43rd place.

The city was one of only 8 British cities to make the list; beating out Birmingham and Newcastle, which came 55th and 56th respectively, but falling short of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow and, bizarrely, Coventry.

The rankings are formed using assessment derived from an array of factors including affordability, student mix, employer activity, and desirability. For the first time QS also included a ‘student view’ indicator in the rankings, which takes into account students’ overall experience in the city and whether they were inclined to remain after graduation. For this, Nottingham remarkably ranked as the 6th best city in the world, and the overall best in the UK, beating out Edinburgh (12th), Glasgow (13th), and London (23rd).
