Police to ‘scale back’ search for Euan Coulthard

Five days after the Mary’s student disappeared, police have announced they are reducing searches of the river and its banks

Durham Police have confirmed that they have scaled back searches for missing Mary’s student Euan Coulthard.

The Law second year disappeared early last Thursday morning (15th) after a night out.

Supt Colin Williamson of Durham Police said: “As it currently stands, we have scaled back searches of the river and the river bank, however, we will continue with periodic searches this week as the river ebbs and flows.

“With help from our fire and mountain rescue and fell rescue colleagues, the river has been searched from 300 metres beyond Prebends Bridge back down to Finchale Abbey.

“Certain parts of the river at Chester-le-Street and Washington have also been searched.

“Despite this, there has been no change in terms of new information coming to light.

“However, we are still hopeful of finding Euan alive and we are still appealing for information, no matter how small it may seem.”

The law student was last seen walking across Framwellgate bridge at around midnight.
