Here’s why a pub job in Liverpool is the best uni job about
Beats promoting any day
It’s time someone said it – working in a pub at uni is seriously underrated. It’s more flexible than retail, more sociable than tutoring, and a lot warmer than flyering.
So whether you’re at All Bar One in Derby Square, or The Shipping Forecast on Slater Street, here are all the reasons why working in a Liverpool pub beats pretty much any other uni job:
Our customers are super friendly
There’s definitely an abundance of Northern charm in Liverpool, and that means (most of the time) our customers are an absolute dream. Nothing makes a shift go faster than recognising some friendly faces and having some banter with the people you’re serving.
And the tips are pretty sweet too
Liverpudlians are known for being generous tippers – being told to ‘take your own’ 20p out of every round can really add up during an eight hour shift. When people are dining big on steak night the tips definitely add up, and there’s nothing like that sweet, sweet sound of the jar being emptied at the end of the night
It’s also the perfect job to fit around uni
Working in a pub is one of the most flexible jobs you can have – it’s really easy to fit shifts in around our lives so we can just make money whenever we’ve got some spare time.
Essay deadline? No problem, switch with a colleague. Waiting for all our mates to finish exams? We just pick up some extra shifts and earn some cash instead of sitting at home watching old episodes of Love Island.
We make some quality friends
Most of us are students, and we spend so much time together that it’s impossible not to bond. It’s actually fun to go to work when everyone is on good form – it’s just like working with a big bunch of mates.
And the staff nights out are amazing
One massive benefit of working in a pub is that it’s literally a place made for socialising. What’s not to love about winding down with your pals for free after a long shift?
Plus, getting a discounted pub lunch every shift isn’t too shabby
When you’re not treating them to your sweet staff discount, you’re the envy of all your mates because you don’t have to spend your evenings packing boring tupperwares for the next day – discounted burger and chips and sticky toffee pudding? Don’t mind if I do.
Liverpool is the best night out, so everyone is always in a good mood
It actually makes working on a Saturday night totally worth it, especially considering most of our uni mates don’t actually go out at the weekend.
We can play a massive part in getting people’s evenings off to the right start, and joining in on the fun. Our customers are usually in a great mood as they’re always buzzing for a night out.
So we meet some real characters
Shout out to the stag and hen do’s who make our shifts that much more interesting – there’s nothing quite like a pub full of rowdy Scousers to keep you on your toes.
Derby day is also an experience – you’ll never feel a buzz quite like it when Liverpool play Everton. Plus, we’re known for having the most outrageous stories about the absolute sights we see on a daily basis.
It’s top for learning those transferrable skills
What other job teaches you time management, teamwork, multitasking, diplomacy, money management, and how to pull a perfect pint? Not to mention the fact that knowing how to make all the cocktails on the All Bar One menu is a real crowdpleaser when it comes to parties or pres. Let’s face it, pub work is CV and social gold.
