Every truly unhinged way Tiger King is trying to claw his way back in our lives once more
If anything he's being more vocal behind bars?!
Let’s face it, Tiger King isn’t done with us yet. The Netflix phenomenon exploded in 2020, sending the world down a rabbit hole of big cats, bigger personalities, and jaw-dropping drama, and honestly, it never really faded. Even years later, Joe Exotic, Doc Antle, and the rest of the zoo crew continue to dominate headlines, proving that the chaos is far from over. Now, Tiger King is roaring back with fresh scandals, legal twists, health dramas, and a rumoured brand-new documentary that promises to reveal ‘the real story’. Buckle up, because the latest chapter in the wild world of Joe Exotic is as unpredictable as ever.
Joe Exotic is trying for a comeback
Behind bars and still basking in infamy, Joe Exotic (aka Joseph Maldonado) isn’t ready to be forgotten. In July 2025, he teased a new documentary titled Tiger King: Truth Exposed, promising “never-before-seen footage” and a claim that it will tell the “real story,” featuring “people that weren’t paid to lie on Netflix,” per TV Insider. He tagged John Reinke in his Instagram post and hinted the doc might hit Amazon Prime in September 2025, though Amazon hasn’t confirmed anything.
Appeals, pardon pleas, and a denied retrial
Joe has been busy even behind bars. He sought, and lost, another appeal, yet he hasn’t given up hope. He’s still publicly pleading for a pardon from former President Trump, asking to “be allowed to go home.” Trump pardoned the Chrisleys, but he’s yet to make any motions for Joe.
The Netflix star also had a retrial denied. Joe had his initial sentence of 22 years reduced in January 2022. Now, he’s serving a 21-year prison sentence after his initial 2019 conviction for a murder-to-hire plot against Carole Baskin. Amid his appeals, it wasn’t all bad news for Joe as he married his fellow inmate Jorge Flores Maldonado in April 2025.
Tiger King had a health scare
As if prison life wasn’t enough, Joe has faced serious health challenges this year. He revealed his prostate cancer had returned, and this time it spread to his lungs, per The New York Post. He’s declined treatment for now, holding out hope to get proper care after release. He said he “will die in prison unless President Trump pardons him,” and added: “I will not make it another five years.”
Joe Exotic sues animal sanctuary
In a new legal twist, Joe is reportedly suing the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion, Indiana, over alleged violations of the Endangered Species Act, per 21 Alive News. The sanctuary, which houses four tigers previously owned by Joe, announced plans to neuter one of them, Elvis, a white Bengal tiger.
The Netflix star argues that neutering the tiger is an unnecessary procedure that harms and harasses the animals, violating federal laws. He is seeking a federal judge to declare that the sanctuary is violating the Endangered Species Act, prohibit them from owning or possessing endangered or threatened species, and appoint a guardian to determine the most appropriate placement for the animals.
Per 21Alive, Kimberly Huth, lead keeper at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, said back in May that white tigers are “man-made.” According to the lead keeper, “Elvis, like many white tigers, is inbred and suffers from deformities, including crossed eyes.”
She added that “neutering Elvis would not violate the Endangered Species Act, despite the claims by Maldonado and his team.” The report also contained some more from Kimberly: “Tigers as a species are endangered, out in the wild, but white tigers are man-made, so they’re not considered endangered at all… While they are beautiful, there’s no question about that, there really isn’t a need to produce more of them.”
Doc Antle was sentenced to jail
Joe Exotic is already behind bars, and now, another Tiger King standout is set for the same fate. Bhagavan ‘Doc’ Antle is back in the headlines, not for wild antics but for real legal consequences. In July 2025, he was sentenced to one year and one day in prison for wildlife trafficking, specifically importing endangered animals, and money laundering, per NBC. He also faces hefty fines, restitution and has to forfeit three chimpanzees.
New documentary and endless drama
With Joe hawking his version of the story in Truth Exposed, legal drama on both sides, and health and love slipping through the bars, the Tiger King saga shows no sign of slowing down. A fresh doc, new court rulings, and personal crises are brewing. Is all of this just Joe waiting to catapult the franchise back into pop-culture frenzy?!
Five years in, Tiger King still dominates headlines, thanks to Joe’s relentless media hustle, Doc Antle’s latest sentencing, and an emotional whirlwind involving health scares, appeals, and a prison-house marriage. September 2025 could mark the next explosive chapter if Tiger King: Truth Exposed actually drops.
