Why was Yulissa Escobar removed from Love Island USA?
When it comes to Love Island USA controversies, season seven’s Yulissa looked to have topped the charts. People took to Reddit to question how the video wasn’t seen prior to her arrival in the villa.
People were clearly doing some digging as she made her reality TV debut. Folks found snaps of her ex-boyfriend, who reportedly “broke her heart” online.
As she appeared on the show, a video of her using a racial slur also began circulating on the internet.
In the video, Yulissa is seen saying the n-word three times.
She said: “Are you that n**** that controls what she wears?” and, in a separate video in a podcast, she said: “I’m not perfect, now I’m f***ing my n****, he’s my n*****.”
Reality Shrine has contacted Yulissa for comment.
She finally spoke out over the controversies
Love Island USA’s Yulissa was suddenly removed from the villa in season seven.
Her abrupt exit came as a surprise to some people watching the show. But others were aware of the reason she was axed from the Peacock show.
Now, she’s finally broken her silence on the subject.
Taking to Instagram, Yulissa shared an official statement.
She began the post by writing: “First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using. Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly.”
The axed season seven star added that she used “a word she never should’ve used, a racial slur.”
Yulissa continued: “I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognise now that intention doesn’t excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It’s tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.”
She added how, at the time, she was “casually speaking in conversation” and that she’s “changed a lot since then.”
The Love Island USA alum rounded off by saying she was “sorry,” adding: “To those who are disappointed or offended, I understand and I apologize.”
