Love Is Blind’s Virginia shares her honest thoughts on the season eight cast being mostly white
Our queen is here to say it how it is
Virginia is sharing her real and honest thoughts on the Love Is Blind season eight cast being mostly white. This season was the whitest cast in the Netflix show so far, and with Virginia and Devin as the only black couple that made it to the final cut, she’s now speaking out on the “unfortunate” casting that the producers decided on.
Virginia shares her thoughts on white Love Is Blind casting
Virginia has revealed that the Love Is Blind season eight cast mostly being white is “unfortunate” on the What’s The Reality podcast. She said that Minneapolis’ diversity can’t be to blame, because they have the highest Somali demographic, and the highest Mongolian demographic, making it “pretty diverse” in Virginia’s eyes. However, she did touch on how four men who identified as Black were originally cast.
She said two of them are African, and two of them biracial. Virginia also said how those black men “usually date white women,” while five black women were also cast, but just didn’t make it to the final edit. Amber Desiree, who has just gotten engaged to Ollie Sutherland from Love Is Blind UK season 1, told Virginia on the podcast that she experienced the same on her season with Clay Gravesande.
The creator of Love Is Blind season eight, Coelen, has defended the overwhelming whiteness of the cast. They told Entertainment Weekly: “Well, the show casts itself. We put people in the pods, and you try to have a very diverse group of people in lots of different ways [at the start]. And then the people who get engaged are the people who get engaged.”
Devin’s type was not what she originally thought
Virginia is claiming that there was an unaired scene of Devin in the pods claiming his type is Alicia Keys, which she felt she fit into. However, she apparently later found out that his usual type is white women. She said, “A little dishonesty with that but also it’s a problem with diversity in the cast and us, you know, connecting.”
Devin and Virginia didn’t get their happy ending, because she wasn’t ready to marry him, whereas he said yes at the altar. So even if she wasn’t his usual type, he was super into Virginia by the looks of things! They both appear to be single now – but Love Is Blind creator Coelen said, “We always, always, always strive to seed the pods for the greatest possible success,” focusing on diversity, financial status, looks and so on.
