We’re hours away before the next batch of American Horror Story season 13 episodes drop, with Hulu confirming new details about their runtimes. And there are plenty of clues about what they will entail. As you’ll be well aware, AHS 13 is essentially the “greatest hits” of Ryan Murphy’s horror series, bringing together classic characters and cast members from across the previous 12 seasons – including Jessica Lange as Constance, Sister Jude, Fiona Goode and Elsa Mars. The first three episodes also introduced us to Ben (Joey Pollari), a hospice caretaker with triskaidekaphobia (a fear of the number 13, obviously). He’s set to get a visit from one of his dead girlfriend’s friends in episode 5 – but this is far from the only detail we know. Much like the premiere, the next batch will consist of three new episodes. So, let’s dive into all of the details we know, including a new update on the Hulu schedule. Hulu confirms runtimes for American Horror Story: 13 episodes 4-6 Unlike previous AHS seasons, the 13th installment has switched to half-hour episodes for the first time. According to the latest listings, episodes 4-6 are just shy of 30 minutes, as shown below: Episode 4 – 29 minutes Episode 5 – 26 minutes Episode 6 – 24 minutes While some fans wish they would be longer, as one Redditor pointed out, “For 30 minute time slots with ads, the episode lengths are pretty good.” And the plus side is that no episodes will be releasing as singles aside from the finale (which hopefully will be a longer special). Episode 4 will delve deeper into Constance’s plan Credit: FX Episode 4, ‘Is That All There Is?’, picks up directly after ‘Rauhnacht’, with the synopsis revealing: “As Constance’s evening winds down, the holiday guests have dark places to go and people to see.” But we already know this was far more than a Christmas party. Constance gathered a group of returning souls at the Apollyon as part of the Rauhnacht ritual, while the end of episode 3 took them beneath the building and revealed Wilhemina Venable waiting for them. Constance also ominously told Tate he had to “do your part down there” and that “sacrifices must be made.” The biggest question is what Constance and Mr Nas need them for. One popular Reddit theory argues that Rauhnacht is being used to gather 13 souls for a sacrifice that will help Nas regain his strength, with Constance doing his bidding because she’s been promised that her children will be spared. Of course, we’ll have to wait to find out more, but judging by the season 13 episode 4-6 trailer, the ritual looks set to kick off a chaotic chain of events. Episode 5 could explain why Ben survived the plane crash Credit: FX Episode 5 will shift the focus back to Ben. Titled ‘Date Night’, its synopsis says: “A friend of Ben’s girlfriend wants to reconnect, whether he is ready to face the past or not.” This is particularly interesting given the premiere established that Ben wasn’t technically the only survivor of the plane crash: Kira’s friend, who was sitting in another row 13 seat, survived too. But more importantly, it could explain why Ben is involved in any of this in the first place. His survival has been surrounded by the number 13 from the beginning, and he somehow went from surviving the crash to becoming the caretaker of Mr Nas. Pretty odd coincidence, no? The timing is interesting too. The next batch will see the witches become more heavily involved, so if ‘Date Night’ establishes why Ben matters to Mr Nas, it could provide the missing link between him and the much bigger supernatural threat the Coven is about to face. Episode 6 is where the witches enter the fight Credit: FX And that brings us neatly to episode 6, ‘The Return of Devil’s Night’. Its synopsis confirms: “As an unseen threat closes in, the witches of Miss Robichaux’s Academy turn to forgotten magic.” The title alone gives us a pretty huge clue. Hotel fans will remember ‘Devil’s Night’ as James Patrick March’s annual gathering of dead serial killers at the Hotel Cortez, and the trailer confirms it’s quite literally returning. We see March talking to Jeffrey Dahmer about “the reason for our reanimation,” adding: “Cutting, sawing, chopping.” But as you can see by the synopsis, the Coven are set to be forced into action too. Cordelia says in the latest trailer, “Girls manifesting powers we only see once in a generation,” before they all join hands. We already know she’s been anticipating something huge. Back in the premiere, Cordelia sensed a “harbinger of our doom”, warning of “terrifying and vengeful death” and that “something wicked this way comes.” It looks like they have their work cut out for them, with Cordelia saying in the new trailer, “I can’t see what’s coming.” Not bad for an episode that’s somehow only 24 minutes long.
