There’s ‘proof’ Hal Jordan is not really dead in Lanterns, and episode 7 trailer spoiled it

After episode 6, HBO Max’s Lanterns wants us to think Hal Jordan is dead, but there’s proof that he is very much alive in the new episode 7 preview.

Episode 6 jumps forward to 2026 and confirms that Hal has been killed, with John Stewart returning to Rushville to investigate what actually happened to his former partner.

But there’s a pretty massive problem with that. The episode 7 preview has just dropped, and there’s one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment that has viewers convinced Hal Jordan might not actually be dead.

So, is Hal Jordan actually dead?

As per the trailer, John is seen punching a mysterious figure whose face is mostly hidden. We don’t get a proper look at who he is, but the person appears to have a similar build and look to Hal.

That has obviously sent Lanterns fans into full detective mode. Some viewers think the person could be Sinestro, while others are convinced it’s actually Hal Jordan himself. One Reddit discussion about the official preview even has fans arguing that the figure looks far more like Kyle Chandler’s Hal than Sinestro.

One commenter wrote, “That’s not Sinestro. Look at the colour of his skin. I’m thinking that is the real Hal Jordan and the one who died was a clone.”

Another said they had slowed the scene down frame by frame and thought it was “definitely” Hal.

John has spent episode 6 trying to work out who killed Hal. Now, in the very next episode, he appears to come face-to-face with someone who looks suspiciously like him.

So, what is going on?

Lanterns has already given itself a very convenient way to bring another version of Hal into the story. At the end of episode 6, John uses Hal’s old ring and activates the Halogram, which is essentially a stored version of Hal’s consciousness.

The episode 7 preview then puts John and Halogram together as they investigate Hal’s murder. As per the trailer, Halogram is back for the new episode and is helping John work out who killed his human counterpart.

That means there are already two different versions of Hal in play: The dead 2026 Hal and the younger Hal preserved inside the ring.

But that mysterious figure in the trailer doesn’t obviously look like a hologram.

There’s another clue in the mid-season trailer

The episode 7 preview isn’t the only thing making people question Hal’s death. The mid-season trailer also includes footage of Hal that appears to show him being healed or restored using mysterious technology.

The trailer features a mysterious version of Hal and footage that has fuelled theories about what really happened to him. The footage appears to show Hal with a mark on his arm that fans have connected to the Manhunter technology previously used to heal John.

So, could the Hal who died actually be a clone?

Well, there is a possibility that it could have been a clone or some kind of duplicate created using the technology we’ve already seen in the show. That would explain why another version of Hal could seemingly appear later without completely undoing episode 6.

There’s even speculation that the Manhunters could be involved, given everything the show has established about their technology.

I’m choosing to believe that Hal Jordan isn’t really dead. Hopefully, we’ll find out the truth soon!
