Practical Magic 2 has landed in cinemas 28 years after the first movie. It’s another witchy ride, but the end brings it back to reality with a touching detail in place of a post-credits scene – and it will have you sobbing when you know the backstory. In the sequel, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens, the sisters who descend from a long line of witches. If you recall, their family had been plagued for generations by a curse that doomed any man an Owens woman fell in love with. By the end of Practical Magic, it seemed the curse had been broken and Sally could finally be with Gary (Aidan Quinn). But alas, the sequel proves it’s very much still around and Gary has sadly died in the intervening years. Sally has tried to protect her daughters Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams) from the same fate by keeping their magical heritage a secret. But when Kylie falls in love and the curse strikes again, she sets off in search of a way to break it for good. Now, we won’t go any further in case you’re avoiding spoilers. But one thing we can let you know is about any post-credits scenes. Is there a Practical Magic 2 post-credits scene? No, Practical Magic 2 doesn’t have a mid- or post-credits scene, meaning you’re free to leave the theatre once the credits start rolling. That said, there is a dedication at the end to Nicole and Sandra’s real-life sisters, Antonia Kidman and Gesine Bullock-Prado. And this becomes all the more meaningful when you hear what Nicole had to say about her family. Credit: Instagram/@sandrabullock The full dedication actually reads “Michelle, Gesine and Antonia,” honouring both stars’ sisters alongside producer Denise Di Novi’s sister Michelle Di Novi. Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald about the relationship the trio have with their siblings, Nicole explained, “They formed us. Denise said, ‘Do you want to dedicate the film to our sisters?’ We were immediately, ‘Yes, yes.’ Then I told Antonia, and I said, ‘So sit to the end.’” Sandra added, “I think honouring those who have taken good care of us is imperative. We always forget… from the ancestors, to the aunts, to the grandmothers, the mothers, the sisters, we need to say it, so they can hear it.” But it’s Nicole’s comments about her parents that will really tug at your heartstrings. The actress has sadly lost both her mum and dad in the years since the first Practical Magic movie. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nicole Kidman (@nicolekidman) Her father, Dr Antony Kidman, died suddenly in 2014 aged 75, while her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, passed away in 2024 aged 84. In an interview with The Australian, Nicole spoke about the dedication, saying, “I wish my mum was here to see it… I wish my dad was. It’s sort of like the film where things move on, you know?” But the actress used the word “resilience” when asked what she’s learned in the 28 years since first playing Gillian. “I’ve learned that you keep moving forward, that you embrace your own sense of who you are and what you are,” she explained. “Be honest about it, be truthful, and be willing to accept other people and change and morph and grow.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
