Cue the fan theories, as a Marvel insider has hinted that Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, might not be dead after all. And with VisionQuest bringing her death back into the conversation, the timing is certainly interesting. I know, it’s a conversation that’s been had a million times since Wanda seemingly sacrificed herself in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness back in 2022. Plus, Elizabeth Olsen has repeatedly shut down rumours of a return in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, so you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d finally put this one to bed. But as we know, death never has to be permanent in the MCU. And Agatha All Along only fuelled speculation when Billy asked Agatha whether Wanda is dead, to which she replied, “Yes. No. Maybe!” In the latest Marvel series VisionQuest, talks of Wanda’s death are a little more definitive. Vision (Paul Bettany) himself says, “She was sort of… crushed under the weight of a mountain.” But a new tease suggests there still might be hope for the Scarlet Witch. Marvel insider suggests the Scarlet Witch might have survived Credit: Disney During a new Q&A with The Cosmic Circus, Marvel insider Alex Perez was asked: “What happened to Wanda Maximoff at the end of Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness? Because I don’t think that powerful witch can be easily ‘crushed under the weight of a mountain,’ as Vision says in VisionQuest.” Perez’s response was short but intriguing: “You’re right. Stay tuned,” alongside a winky face emoji. Of course, that isn’t confirmation that Wanda survived, let alone that Olsen has secretly signed up for another Marvel appearance. But it’s another suggestion that the MCU might not be completely finished with the Scarlet Witch just yet – even if there’s currently no official word on when (or whether) she’ll return. Although there was plenty of speculation that she’ll make an appearance in VisionQuest, the Disney+ series is about Vision and the absence of Wanda. As showrunner Terry Matalas told Disney, “This is a story of a guy going through an identity crisis, and when you go through that, you spend a lot of time in your own head. “I’ve certainly been there. I asked myself, ‘Who do I really want to see him with?’ Wanda is not there, so immediately, I went to Ultron.” Another theory is that Wanda may get a mention in VisionQuest, setting the stage for her – or a variant of her – to return in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. Credit: Disney This idea was floated by Marvel fans, with one writing on Reddit, “If she does, it’ll be Doomsday or Secret Wars, not VisionQuest.” Another replied, “Couldn’t VisionQuest reintroduce her and then she’s in Doomsday, Secret Wars etc?” It’s worth noting that Olsen wasn’t included in Marvel’s announced Doomsday cast, and she’s repeatedly said she has no knowledge of plans for Wanda in either upcoming Avengers movie. Speaking to The Playlist in November 2025, she admitted she had “no idea how or when” Wanda might return. And when asked about Doomsday and Secret Wars at a convention in March 2026, she insisted: “I know nothing. I know nothing about any of it.” That doesn’t mean she’s closed the door on the Scarlet Witch altogether. In fact, Olsen has made it clear she’d love to revisit the character if there’s a worthwhile story to tell, rather than simply bringing her back for the sake of a surprise. As for whether VisionQuest could lead into the next Avengers films, Matalas was asked that exact question by The Direct earlier this year. His answer? “That I can’t comment on at all.” So for now, Perez’s cryptic “stay tuned” is about all we have to go on. Speaking of which, VisionQuest episodes 5 and 6 land on Disney+ on October 27 in the US and October 28 internationally. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
