Anne Hathaway stepped out on the red carpet this week with a gorgeous shirt that shows her baby bump, and it didn’t take long for the tin foil hats to emerge. The rumour mill started claiming her pregnancy is fake, and now the actress has responded. 

The Oscar-winner announced this June that she’s expecting baby number three with her husband, Adam Shulman, who she shares two sons with. But that doesn’t mean her career is slowing down. 

Hathaway was front and centre for The Odyssey press tour, and now she’s stepping out to promote the upcoming film The End of Oak Street. Appearing on the red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday, she wore a blue cropped top with low rise jeans, accentuating her growing bump. 

But it didn’t take long for the conspiracy theorists to chime in, with a flurry of comments online accusing her of wearing a prosthetic. “I’ve seen a lot of baby bumps, none like this,” wrote one X user. 

“As someone who has ever seen a proper baby bump. This one looks like those fake ones they wear in movies,” said another, while a third added, “She’s either covered her natural bump with a moon bump or she’s just wearing a moon bump.”

So, is Anne Hathaway really pregnant?

Yes, of course she’s actually pregnant. The claims that she’s wearing a fake bump are nothing more than internet rumours.

In fact, Hathaway even poked fun at the situation. Taking to Instagram, she shared a clip of her at The End of Oak Street premiere stitched with footage of her team getting her ready for the event. 

But it’s the caption that everyone’s talking about: “Fake hair, real bump.”

Hathaway first announced she was expecting her third child on June 19th, sharing a video on Instagram showing off her bump alongside the caption, “Baby, I’m yours.”

A representative also confirmed the pregnancy, with the actress continuing to proudly showcase her bump throughout The Odyssey press tour.

Last month, she appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she said “it’s amazing” to be adding a third child to the family. 

“We knew what we were doing, but we were so shocked it went this way,” she said. “So we’re calling this one our buzzer beater.”

Hathaway is far from the first celebrity to face unfounded speculation over her pregnancy, with several high-profile stars facing similar “moon bump” conspiracy theories. 

For the uninitiated, Moonbump is a company that creates made-to-order, realistic baby bumps. There are a number of reasons why people choose to wear these, one of which is when mothers-to-be are using a surrogate.

Beyonce, Rihanna and Meghan Markle have all been accused of wearing Moonbumps in the past, despite there being no credible evidence to support the claims.

In Hathaway’s case, though, she chose to shut the rumours down with just four words: “Fake hair, real bump.”
