Actor Louis Partridge is being called out on social media as “condescending” after an interview with Millie Bobby Brown.

The third film in the Enola Holmes series is coming out this week, and Louis Partridge and Millie Bobby Brown have been making press appearances to promote it. But one interview hasn’t sat well with fans, who called out Louis for being condescending toward Millie Bobby Brown’s taste in music.

When asked what their song of the summer was by Popsugar, Millie Bobby Brown sang Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson.

“What’s that?” Louis asked.

Millie pointed out that it was Zara Larsson and he replied: “You say that like it’s obvious”.

Louis continued: “I’m trying to think of something pop-y, for you to get your head around.”

He mentioned Sue Me by Audrey Hobert, then said: “I mean, that was probably last summer, but that’s within your realm; I can’t choose a song.”

This clip immediately started circulating on X as people voiced their opinions about Louis’ tone and language towards Millie. They claimed his insistence that he couldn’t name a pop song “within [Millie’s] realm” was rude and condescending.

“Why did he act so condescending here?” one person said.

“His vibe is kinda rancid, I’m crying,” said another.

But others have pointed out that this could just be the way they talk to each other, as longtime friends. In an interview with BBC, Millie and Louis talked about their relationship dynamic, comparing it to a sibling relationship.

“People will say to me, ‘I just met Louis Partridge and I had a really interesting conversation, he’s a really smart guy. I’m like, who? Louis Partridge is a smart guy? When?’ We definitely regress into our younger selves,” the actress said.

Louis added: “We were just remarking that we look like brother and sister. There’s definitely a bit of that relationship between us.”
