Criminal Minds star apologises after slamming ‘young’ critic for honest review of reboot

She originally told the writer, 'Right now you suck'

Actress Paget Brewster has apologised after publicly blasting a young writer for her criticism of Criminal Minds reboot, Criminal Minds: Evolution.

The second season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, which acts as the 19th season of the original show, premiered in late May. The season is receiving mixed reviews from fans and critics. The reboot detracts from the 24-episode rollout of the original show, opting instead for a 10-episode format.

One review by ScreenRant senior writer Shealyn Scott noted that the short-season format has affected the show’s pacing, making major emotional moments feel rushed. This article got the attention of Paget Brewster, the actress who plays Emily Prentiss in the show.

“Hello critic Shealynn Scott,” Brewster wrote in a deleted X post sharing the article. “You’re young. You don’t know that bad pics and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs. Sell vintage. Work at a shelter. Do something better than what you do now. Because right now you suck.”

The actress was quickly hit with backlash, including criticism from critics for multiple publications. Andy Behbakht, who is also a senior writer at ScreenRant, called out Paget in her replies.

“This is disgusting behaviour on your part, and really tragic to see you tearing down a young female journalist whom you are literally telling that she ‘sucks’ and that she shouldn’t be in the field that she is in. I stand by my colleague, and you owe her an apology.”

After a wave of criticism, Paget deleted the post and issued a public apology on her X account, directed at Shealynn.

Hi guys, I was mean to Shealyn Scott last night, and I profoundly regret it,” the actress wrote. “Shame on me for insulting a human being for doing their job. I’m very sorry, Shealyn. And I’m sorry to those who follow me for seeing me behave like that. Turns out, last night, I sucked.

Shaelynn has not publicly responded to either the criticism or Paget’s apology.
