This week, it was announced that former actress Daveigh Chase had died, years after making a name for herself in projects like The Ring and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch.

Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, told TMZ that the former child actress had died from meningitis and an infection in her blood that sparked septic issues.

He created a GoFundMe, writing on it: “Daveigh Chase, my girlfriend, has always been a light in my life. Many people know her as a talented childhood actor from Lilo & Stitch, Spirited Away, and ‘Donnie Darko.

“But behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship. After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA.

“When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope. Recently, everything changed. Daveigh was diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood infections.”

Even more tragic details have since emerged, including a video from Los Angeles’ Skid Row, the largest and most condensed unsheltered homeless population in the United States.

Daveigh Chase was on Skid Row in 2025, her manager confirmed

Speaking to The California Post, Daveigh’s longtime manager, John Ryan, discussed the resurfaced video that first emerged on the internet last year.

In 2025, a video appeared to show the actress, barely conscious, living on Skid Row. John saw it at the time and was able to contact his client, but she’d “disappeared” by the time he got to Daveigh Chase’s location on Skid Row. John and Daveigh’s sister had planned for her to go to Costa Rica for treatment.

“We were so close to finding her,” he told The Post, “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.”

Also in the interview, John questioned the validity of Roy Hernandez’s claims, suggesting that the GoFundMe is not legit.

“Apparently, a man claiming to be her ‘boyfriend’ that none of us friends or her family has heard of has set up a GoFundMe on ‘her and her families behalf’ that he set her up as the organizer. I can confirm Daveigh has a trust account set up at SAG to cover all costs,” he added.
