The couple met while filming for the musical, with Ethan Slater divorcing his wife, Dr Lily Jay, after six years married and 10 years together. This caused a lot of controversy, especially after Lily released an essay sharing her feelings around the situation. Old Instagram posts Ethan shared while he and Lily were still together have resurfaced, in which Ariana Grande seemingly showed support for the couple. via X “Happy Mother’s Day to the most loving, caring, and wonderful mom/person in the world. From this little guy and me,” Ethan Slater said in one Instagram post shared on the 14th May, 2023. In an older post, he said: “My best friend. Four years married, 10 years together. And this is easily the best (and most bizarre) year yet.” Ariana liked both posts, which have not been taken down. The strict timeline is unclear, but it has been alleged that the two started dating in the summer of 2023 – soon after Ethan’s Mother’s Day post. via X Sources who claim to be close to the singer gave some insight on her relationships to the Daily Mail, in light of the sudden split. “The person she’s with gets her full attention, and it’s easy to get swept up in that. But then something shifts. From what friends say, Ethan would have preferred the relationship to continue, but Ariana has always followed her own instincts.
