Prime Video dropped The Boys season five episode seven trailer ahead of its upcoming release, and there’s one scene in particular that appears to spoil the Deep’s death… or does it? Tomorrow marks the release of the penultimate episode of The Boys ever, and given that only Firecracker and Black Noir 2 have been killed off so far, we can expect some deaths. Showrunner Eric Kripke has warned that major characters won’t all make it out of season five alive, while Starlight actress Erin Moriarty told THR the ending will be “satisfying and heartbreaking.” It’s difficult to predict exactly what’s coming next given how wildly different the TV show is from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics, but a number of fans think they’ve already spotted a huge hint that The Deep’s luck may finally have run out. Is that Deep drowning in the season 5 episode 7 trailer? In the new trailer, we see a very troubled looking Deep at a dock, as a noteworthy segment of Oh Father’s speech is played over the top: “There is no room for heresy.” Clearly, he’s referring to anyone who goes against Homelander. Penultimate episode, lads. Some fans believe that this is the Deep facing punishment from his fishy friends for his role in the killer pipeline oil spill. What’s more, in a 2024 conversation with TV Guide, Deep star Chace Crawford was asked what the perfect death for his character would be. His reply? “Drowning, somehow. It would be really odd.” Although it was just a funny response, the season five episode seven preview has left fans wondering if they’ve found a way to make it happen. “Looks like deep is finally dying,” wrote one on Reddit, while another said, “About damn time.” Over on YouTube, there are similar comments, including from this person who said, “Deep ain’t making it out of the ocean.” However, not everyone is as convinced that it is the Deep. If you look a little closer, you’ll see that the person drowning in the clip is wearing a long sleeved shirt, different to his usual sleeveless costume. Then there’s the fact that it seems unlikely Prime Video would reveal such a significant character’s death before it happens. The trailer makes you think he will. It’s the same thing they did with episode five where the trailer showed someone exploding teasing it was Soldier Boy. “I think he’s being banned from aquatic life and he’s escaping from some fish who want to get him but I suspect he will get out and make it to the finale.” Another chimed in, “It doesn’t look like him and the guy drowning is wearing a long sleeve.” A third rather bluntly added, “Every time people predict Deep’s gonna die they end up being wrong, like recently when most folks thought Black Noir’s gonna kill him. You guys never learn. “At this point, I actually hope he survives to prove you all wrong once again.” Thankfully, there’s not too long to wait to find out the truth, as The Boys’ next episode – titled ‘The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk’ – lands on Prime Video on Wednesday, 13th May, at 12am PT.
