*UPDATE (November 6): Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for a new live-action Stranger Things prequel series. We’ve got more details on what this means for the Conformity Gate theory below* Oh, you thought Conformity Gate was over? Think again, as a whole host of new clues suggest Stranger Things has… something planned. But does that mean a new episode or something else entirely? You may have blocked it out of your mind, so here’s a refresher: the last ever episode of Stranger Things, ‘Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up’, aired on New Year’s Eve 2025. And a lot of fans had a lot of problems with how the long-running Netflix series wrapped up. There were complaints about the final battle with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) feeling anti-climatic, unresolved plot points and a lack of character deaths (depending on what you believe happened to Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven). This led to theories that the whole season 5 finale was simply an illusion – and that a secret episode with the “real” ending was set to drop on January 7, 2026. The theory was called Conformity Gate, due to the belief that the characters’ endings felt too conventional. When the date came and went, the theory more or less dissipated. But in the weeks running up to this year’s Stranger Things Day – November 6 – the speculation started up again. .@Jamiebower addresses Conformity Gate 😭 @Stranger_Things #FallonTonight pic.twitter.com/pZ5CMOfJmq — The Tonight Show (@FallonTonight) October 31, 2026 Earlier this week, one person said fans rewatching the show might uncover more clues that Vecna had trapped the characters in an illusion, pointing to apparent inconsistencies such as Steve becoming a baseball coach despite never showing an interest in the sport. A couple of weeks ago, the Instagram account Stranger Things Things shared a story that said “Flip the tape”. The speculation was that side A was season 5, and side B would be a secret season 6. There was no official word from Netflix or the show’s cast and crew. However, a number of intriguing clues were shared on Thursday, November 5 – just before Stranger Things Day. All of the clues that has Stranger Things fans believing in Conformity Gate again Probably the biggest clue came from Ross Duffer, who shared a meme on his Instagram Story from the recent documentary You Can See Everything. Credit: Instagram/Ross Duffer It’s been edited as if Billy Evans is saying, “I know what’s coming on Stranger Things Day,” to which Nathan Fielder appears to reply, “No, you don’t.” In other words, a surprise is coming today. Around the same time as Duffer’s post, Millie Bobby Brown shared a video of herself lip-syncing to an audio clip from The Simple Life in which Paris Hilton says she’s stranded in the mountains and needs rescuing. She captioned it, “If lost, please return to set,” prompting speculation about Eleven’s ambiguous fate. It’s worth noting that Millie also tagged her clothing brand, Florence by Mills Fashion. So, the post could simply be promotional rather than a Stranger Things clue – but it’s certainly interesting timing. Earlier this week, TikToker Amanda B shared footage after spotting Mike and Lucas stars Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin filming something together in Chicago. In one clip, we see Finn having his hair and wardrobe touched up, while another shows him again as the security guard signals to the filmer to cut. In a separate video, both Finn and Caleb can be seen together. The shoot appears to have taken place on November 2. Naturally, fans have been left wondering whether they were shooting a secret Stranger Things episode. But if that were the case, wouldn’t that be a bit too late? Especially if this supposed secret episode is set to arrive today. Nope, a new secret episode of Stranger Things isn’t happening. It’s arguably something even bigger. On November 6, 2026, the first teaser for the upcoming Stranger Things live-action spinoff series arrived. And we got a release window: 2028. We already knew the show was in early development, but there had been no updates since then. However, that all changed today. Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is co-created by Kate Trefry and the Duffer Brothers and directed by Joe Wright. All we know for now is it’s a prequel set in the 1950s – decades before the flagship show and years before the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow. The teaser takes us back to April 19, 1955, in Marion, Nevada, where an abandoned bicycle sits near a restricted area in the dead of night. As the camera moves up to show the sky, what looks suspiciously like a portal to another dimension starts to form. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
