Black Doves stars have a wild plan for the assassin duo after that season 2 romance

Love is bringing out a different side of Williams and Eleanor in Black Doves season 2, as stars Ella Lily Hyland and Gabrielle Creevy reveal that their characters are only just beginning to understand what that means.

The pair started out as assassin partners, known for their sharp remarks, chaotic teamwork and ability to get the job done. But their relationship changes in season 2 for the better.

Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Hyland and Creevy opened up about how love is changing their characters in Black Doves season 2, why letting someone in is such a big deal for them and what they would like to see happen next.

Interestingly, Hyland believes Williams’ story has always been about wanting something more than revenge. When the character was first introduced, she was driven by a desire to get back at Sam after he killed her partner. “I think that’s being deepened more in this storyline. It’s going more along that path of her realising she’s not a sociopath. She actually has feelings,” Hyland explained.

So, falling for Eleanor gives Williams the chance to recognise a side of herself she has not really explored before. Her feelings also bring out her jealousy, particularly when Eleanor dates other people.

‘She’s playing hard to get’

Hyland said Williams is not necessarily worried about being rejected. She said, “What I find funny, and Joe wrote this way, is that as soon as she says how she feels, the next scene she begins with, ‘Should we make a list of pros and cons to help us decide?’ Weirdly, she presumes that we’re both on board for this new thing.”

Eleanor, meanwhile, takes a little longer to accept what is happening between them. Creevy said, “Oh my gosh, she’s definitely avoiding it! She’s playing hard to get. I think she for sure has the same feelings, but is not ready to admit them.”

She added, “If we really want to dig into it, they don’t have families. They don’t have that love surrounding them. They don’t have anyone nurturing them. They’re kind of fighting for survival, and allowing someone in is terrifying. It takes Eleanor a minute, but she loves it.”

Creevy described their connection by saying, “For Eleanor, Williams is home. Someone who understands her for what she is. She’s so dry, but also she’s a funny girl. No one else understands her humour like Williams, but no one else sees Eleanor, really sees her.”

She added, “I think Williams is a safe place in a very dangerous world, and it’s love. Even if it’s just friendship, it’s love and connection, and I don’t think she has a connection like that with anyone else.”

So, what does all this mean for them going forward?

Well, Hyland admits that neither character really knows what comes next. “It’s hard to say, isn’t it? I don’t think they know. They’re in this place now of uncertainty and the unknown, and it’s a new chapter for them,” she said.

Creevy has already noticed a change in Williams. She said, “I noticed in season 2 that Williams is warmer. It’s amazing. Love has changed her slightly; she’s become warmer to people and lets people in. It’s really nice to see.”

And while the actresses are not giving away what the future holds for their characters, they do have one particular idea they’d love to see happen: A wedding in Las Vegas.

“We’re really pushing for a Vegas marriage here. This is what we want, and I think we should give the fans what they want,” Creevy said, imagining the pair in white tuxedos and cowboy boots.

Hyland had a slightly different outfit idea, suggesting that Williams could stick to her usual clothes while Eleanor wears a white tuxedo.

Creevy clearly loved it and added, “In a white tuxedo, really short fringe, cowboy boots. I think a Vegas marriage. I’m putting it out there.”
