Atypical star Jack Haven shares update after desperate plea for work to keep health insurance

'I will do, pretty much, any job'

Jack Haven has shared an update after making a public plea for work because they needed to earn $4,000 before the end of September to qualify for SAG health insurance from January.

The 32-year-old actor, known for Netflix’s Atypical, I Saw the TV Glow and the recent film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, said they had been in “a bit of an emergency situation” when they posted their original appeal online.

Haven first explained the situation in a YouTube video shared online last week. “I’m making this video today because I’m in a bit of an emergency situation. I need to make $4,000 by the end of the month in order to qualify for SAG health insurance starting in January,” they said.

They added, “So, I guess what I’m asking is if you, or anyone you know, can hire me on a set or production and pay me $4,000, I will do, pretty much, any job.”

They went on to list some of the things they could do. “I can sing, I can dance, I can talk softly… loudly, I can do accents, British,” Haven said. “So if you have a job, you can email me: [email protected]. Thank you, it would be very appreciated.”

The Independent reported that SAG-AFTRA members need to reach a specific level of covered earnings from union work within the relevant period to qualify for health insurance. Members can also qualify through a required number of credited work days.

‘I got a lot of offers’

Jack Haven’s appeal went super viral on social media. A lot of people were shocked that an actor with that many recognisable film and television credits was looking for work so urgently.

Haven has appeared in all four seasons of Atypical and starred as Maddy in Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow. They also appeared in Bill & Ted Face the Music and recently starred in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma also won the Queer Palm at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Now, days later, Haven says the response has been much bigger than they expected. In a follow-up video, Haven thanked people who shared their original message and said they had received a number of offers.

“Hey guys, so I guess a lot of people saw the video where I asked for $4,000. Um, I got a lot of offers. So, thank you, guys,” Haven said.

They continued, “Thank you for your love and your kindness. I really feel overwhelmed. I really didn’t expect this many people to see the video.”
